THE CHURCH FLOWER GUILD

The Church Flower Guild was first declared an “organisation” in February 1977 under the leadership of Mrs Capper, wife of the then vicar.

The Guild meets usually three times a year to discuss Easter, Harvest and Christmas festivals, and are the decorators for these events. Every five years a Flower Festival is held in which we all take part.

All of this is planned and funded by the ladies themselves and if necessary subsidised by the Flower Guild. Donations are always very welcome.

Over the years members of the town's organisations, schools, businesses and churches have been invited to take part in the Flower Festivals

Many members of the congregation donate “in memoriam” money for the Easter lilies and also families outside the church family who wish to remember loved ones. Open Church on Easter Monday has brought in a good number of people wishing to see the lilies and the names displayed on a special list.

There are fresh flowers every week (excluding Lent) both on the High Altar and in the Lady Chapel, given usually in memory of a loved one. If the person on the rota is unable to arrange the flowers themselves, Flower Guild ladies are on hand to do them for them.

Flowers are taken to church members who may be ill or need cheering up and for many years harvest "give always" went to the bereaved of that year in the form of baskets.

There have been many visiting demonstrators and annual outings, usually to a meal and demonstration provided.

We are very lucky to have such a dedicated team and visitors often comment on the floral adornment of our beautiful church.
